A Dashing Sketch {PP74}

Hiya friends! I hope my US friends had a wonderful Thanksgiving and that everyone is enjoying the weekend. It's another week at The Paper Players and the lovely and talented Lesley is bringing us a sketch:

Lesley always comes up with the best sketches--ya know she's the creator of Freshly Made Sketches--and this week is no exception!  One look at that tilted panel and I knew what I wanted to do:

Since titled panels are a challenge for me, I like to tilt the paper but stamp the image straight.  It's a sneaky way to embrace the tilt!  For this card, I paired some Mocha Morning DSP with some Brushed Gold cardstock cut with the Two Tags die.  I did cut it down a little to better fit my image.  Dasher was inked in Versamark, then Early Espresso, stamped onto the Brushed Gold and heat set with clear stampin' emboss powder.

The background was stamped in Early Espresso with the En Francias stamp and I added a little fussy ribbon treatment with vanilla seam binding, linen thread and a glimmer brad.  You might notice that the tiny tag was sponged with Champagne Shimmer paint to dull the brightness of the vanilla a bit.

I did the same with the Northern Frost snowflakes--the vanilla just seemed too bright next to the gold.  A little bit of shimmer paint sponged right on gives it instant sparkle with an aged look.

I went to town with the shimmer paint using it to ink up Dasher again on the inside.  Applied directly to the stamp gives it a shimmery watermark appearance.

And there you have it!  I hope you like today's card...please let me know if you have any questions.  Be sure to check out the rest of the Design Team at The Paper Players:

Embossed & Dashing for the Paper Players {26}

Happy Sunday everyone!  I hope all my US friends enjoyed the holiday weekend, I sure did!  It was nice to have a leisurely time making my card for this week's Paper Players {26} challenge.  Usually it's a mad rush to the deadline!  This week is Jaydee's Paper Players Plus challenge and she's calling for wet embossing.  Such fun--I love how embossing creates a sharp and glossy image.  For this one, I turned to a much-neglected holiday favorite from 2009.  Sweet Dasher has yet to see ink this holiday season so I thought he was due for a turn at my craft table.

Isn't he handsome?  He looks wonderful emobssed in Night of Navy.  First, I cut a 3" circle with my Nestabilities and stamped the long row of bare trees from Lovely as a Tree in Bashful Blue.

Next, I overstamped Dasher by inking him first in Versamark, then Night of Navy and sprinkled with clear embossing powder and heat set.  I love this technique which allows me to emboss in any ink color.  Versamark + classic ink of choice + clear embossing powder and heat set = FAB results!  I also added a little Dazzling Diamonds to the snowy hills with a glue pen.

Bashful Blue cardstock was embossed with the Northern Flurry impressions folder and sponged over with Frost White Shimmer Paint.  I applied the Shimmer Paint directly to the cardstock with a sponge and added a few basic rhinestones for even more sparkle!

 Whisper White organza ribbon is my go-to ribbon for holiday cards--it's elegant and shimmery all at once.  Of course, my other go-to this season is the Silver Tinsel trim I tied onto the knot.  A little bit of tinsel goes a long way but adds such a fun element!

On the inside, I stamped Lovely as a Tree again in Bashful Blue and overstamped a sentiment from Occasional Quotes (hostess level 2) in Night of Navy.  I just love this sentiment, it's the perfect match for the serene, frosty mood I was going for.  Of course, the inside needed a bit of "frost" too so a few more strokes of the glue pen and a sprinkling of Dazzling Diamonds was in order.

Won't you join us for a embossing challenge?  Head on over to The Paper Players this week to check out the rest of the Design Team's creations--you're sure to find a lot of inspiration when you do!  To play along just link up your creation by midnight (PST) Friday, December 3rd to be in the running for "A Cut Above" and "Headliner".  The winners will be featured on The Paper Players blog Saturday, December 4th.  Come join us, we can't wait to see what you'll create!

PPA21 - Winter Wonderland

Just under the wire but I made it!  Like everyone else, this time of year tends to take over and I haven't had a chance to post a card for my favorite challenge!  The design team at Pals Paper Arts asked for cards & projects with a winter wonderland theme for PPA21 and with the help of the always handsome Dasher stamp, I think we deliver!  My base is basic grey and the main panel is night of navy run through a holiday '09 cuttlebug folder.  I received the CB folder as a gift and I don't know the name--sorry!  It looks like swirling snow, yes?  Dasher is embossed in white and a bit of dazzling diamonds applied with a glue pen add the perfect amount shimmer to his splendid antlers!  The sentiment from Teeny Tiny Wishes is stamped in Encore metallic silver and mounted on a modern lable punch from the brushed silver cardstock.  SU's brushed silver CS is so lucious--just like brushed metal and a perfect match to the metallic silver ink.  It's finished off with some elegant white organza ribbon.  I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday and wish you the best in the new year.  Cheers!

Supplies:
stamps: dasher, teeny tiny wishes
ink: craft whisper white, encore metallic silver
paper: basic grey, whisper white, night of navy CS
xtras: CB EB folder holiday '09, white EB powder, MS glue pen, dazzling diamonds, modern label and word window punch, organza ribbon white

Loungin' Rudy: PPA16

Oh my gosh, it's been a long time since I last posted.  Whew, what a month it's been.  Life just takes over sometimes, right?  So anyway, I'm back with a post this week for the PPA16, Christmas Cheer, challenge over at Pals Paper Arts.   My card is one we made last month in my stamp club featuring two favorites this holiday season--Dasher & the Holiday Lounge designer paper.  The star here is the every-handsome Dasher himself and the non-traditional color combination.  I am really loving the teal & red combo lately.  The retro feel of these colors coordinates well with the Holiday Lounge paper, dontcha think?  Dasher is embossed in silver on a 3" circle of Whisper White.  The mat was made from Sahara Sand cardstock by dialing up on the Circle Scissor Plus to create the perfect 3.25" circle mat.  Love it!  The rest of the card is pretty simple but I want to give a shout out to this video for the stay-put-bow.  I love this technique--especially for tricky-to-tie material such as the silver elastic cord used here. Thanks for looking!
