Giddyup Cowgirl PP289

Happy Sunday, happy Funday friends!  We hosted a 40 person reception in our home last night so yesterday was all about cleaning and preparations.  Today is FUN day and my friend Laurie certainly has a fun theme challenge this week at The Paper Players:
I have very few...well, in fact, just one....stamp set that I could use for this challenge.  It's a retired one that, thankfully, I never got rid of.  As I considered the design of my card, two other challenges fell into place that gave me just the kick I needed.  The Global Design Project 029 has a fun color challenge and with my friend Brian King on the design team I couldn't resist!  Then I saw the fabulous sketch from my sweet friend, Dawn Tidd, at Pals Paper Arts PP294 and everything just clicked!  Here are the two challenges:

...and here's how they inspired me:

I promise you, I really did use Bermuda Bay...I know it looks more like Tempting Turquoise but the light was terrible when I took this picture and it made it a different color but I swear it is Bermuda Bay!  I stamped the Hardwood background stamp onto Crumb Cake cardstock, distressed the edges and placed it onto my Early Espresso base.
The boots were embossed with Early Espresso embossing powder on the Bermuda Bay cardstock and fussy cut.  I love the way the color pops on the Tangelo Twist sunburst circle.  The Linen thread looped behind the boots and the bit of Burlap trim all added to the rustic look I was going for.
You can see the Bermuda Bay color a bit better here but what I wanted to show you was the dusting of Wink of Stella the boots received.  Because really, who doesn't love stardust cowgirl boots, right?

I hope you've enjoyed my card today....pop over to the challenge blogs that inspired me and say hello to everyone there.  Then, I hope you will join us at The Paper Players before our challenge closes on Friday, April 8th at Noon (PST).

A Bootiful Occasion for a Sketch {PP246}

Howdy, friends!  As soon as I saw Anne Marie's fantastic sketch for our challenge at The Paper Players, I knew just the set I wanted to use.  First, the sketch:
This is a good one and could be used for lots of different images and occasions.  Today, I wanted to use a soon-to-be-retired set that will probably stay on my stamping shelves for awhile longer....Bootiful Occasions.  Take a look:
The brick pattern of the Adventure Bound paper stack seemed like a good, rustic companion to my blue suede boots.  Wouldn't you love a pair of boots in Lost Lagoon suede and Cajun Craze leather?  Well, with some Stampin' Write markers in hand, that's just what you've got!  The boots were fussy-cut and popped up on the sunburst from Kinda Eclectice because....well, it just seemed Kinda Eclectic and perfectly rustic.
And so does the burlap trim with a little bit of frayed edges...so glad to see this made it into the new catalog!  Disappointed that the Champagne Glimmer paper is retiring so I made sure to use it for a little bit Urban Cowgirl.
You just can't beat the punny sentiment from this set for the inside....and I couldn't resist coloring another boot either!  I hope you also can't resist playing along with us this week at The Paper Players.  Just make sure to check out the rest of the Design Team and play along before the challenge closes on Friday, May 29th at noon (PST)!  Thanks for stopping by today!

It's for Anne Marie afterall...{PP109}

...that was the refrain between my Mom and I every time we asked ourselves if it needed just one more rhinestone, lol!  Howdy, friends, and welcome to another week at The Paper Players where our gal pal Anne Marie is hosting a fun challenge!
Paper Piecing!  I love paper piecing.  Stamping on patterned paper adds an extra element of interest to your stamped image.  For this challenge, I knew I wanted to use the new set, Bootiful Occasions, to make a get well card for my dear friend Anne Marie.  You may not know that she had surgery on BOTH feet two weeks ago and I thought this set matched her perky personality and love of shoes!
So, I kinda missed the boat on the clean-and-simple part but seeing as this was a card for Anne Marie's challenge and for her personally, I couldn't resist kickin' it up a 'notch (sorry, had to)!  I started by heat embossing the kickin' cowgirl boot with black embossing powder onto Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight and Marina Mist designer patterned paper.
Of course, I had to dress up these boots with graduated rhinestones--those glossy black stars were crying out for some bling!  Did I mention this was for Anne Marie?  ;-)  Anywho, I placed them at a "kicky" angle around a Window Frame Framelit that I pierced with the matching Festive Piercing Pack.
This card base is 4 1/4" square which means that I could extend the flagged banner off the edge and still fit the card in a standard envelope for mailing.  At the suggestion of my Mom, (thanks mom!), I added some more rhinestones on the flagged end to give it sort of a Vegas marquee effect!
I typed up the inside sentiment on my computer, printed it on Whisper White cardstock and cut to size.  A few stamped boots match the front and finish off the inside in style!  Anne Marie, I hope this brings a smile to your face and that you're kickin' up yer heels again real soon!  And friends, I hope you'll stop on by the rest of The Paper Players design team for some fun inspiration.  If you want to play along, just make sure to do so by Friday, August 24th @ Noon (PST).  Thanks for stopping by!
