Flowers in a Box, for Mom

Hiya friends....still on vacation but back with another "while I'm away" post for you!  This one was made for my very special mother on Mother's Day.  Since she was leaving on a trip a couple days after Mother's Day, I didn't want to send a flower bouquet that would sit in an empty house (I know, I'm practical like that!) so instead I sent her a bouquet of paper flowers:

I finally got a chance to try my hand at the card-in-a-box design that is all over blog land.  What is so cool about this design is that it truly folds up and fits into a regular A2 envelope.  Now, I'll admit...this one didn't because there were so many layers and embellies!  But, you could design it with mailing in mind and make it much flatter.  Since it was going inside a box anyway, I couldn't help myself from adding all kinds of elements!

I followed the directions from two different tutorials to create this beauty.  Written directions from Mommy Stamper as well as the video tutorial from ChicnScratch.  The base is Coastal Cabana and the box is decorated with a Crumb Cake pattern from the Fresh Prints DSP stack.  I wanted it to resemble a wildflower bouquet and selected the colors of Calypso Coral, Wisteria Wonder, Coastal Cabana and Daffodil Delight.

The Flower Shop stamp set coordinates so well with the Petite Petals set!  Add a little Gold Foil Sheet with a pearl to the center and it's done.  This really didn't take that long to make--it's not as difficult as it looks...shhhhh, don't tell!

Petite Petals Tropicale {PP191}

Happy Sunday, everyone!  The always-amazing-Ann has a beautiful tropical color challenge for us this week at The Paper Players:

Aren't they pretty together?  Coastal Cabana and Calypso Coral are both very bright colors so I knew that I would use a lot of white for balance.  I also wanted to play more with the Hexagon Hive die and try using only a section of it....

I like how using only a portion of the die shape and stamping underneath gives the illusion of flowers growing through a garden fence.  Two different flowers from Petite Petals stamped in Coastal Cabana and Calypso Coral and some Gorgeous Grunge splatters in Always Artichoke created the background. 

You can see that I just snipped away sections of the Hexagon Hive die to reveal more of the flowers underneath.  Cutting away a corner section left the perfect spot for a sentiment.  Adding texture with the Woodgrain embossing folder helps create depth to the tone-on-tone look of white on white.  A sprinkling of tiny basic rhinestones adds just a little sparkle and shine.

On the inside, it was very easy just to replicate the spray of flowers on the front, leaving enough space for a birthday sentiment.  I had fun making this card and I hope you've had fun touring it with me!  Be sure to check out the rest of the Paper Players Design Team for even more inspiration.  Our challenge is open until Friday, April 18th at Noon (PST)--we would love to see what you do with these colors!  Thanks for stopping by!
