Star Spangled Birthday PP299

I just couldn't get my head away from the ideas of stars when I saw LeAnne's color challenge for us at The Paper Players this week:
 Even from the design of the badge straight through to my card, these colors just said STARS!  I am holding onto my favorite SU star set, Be the Star, even though it's retired and used it for my card today:
Oh my, I had fun making this card!  It will go to one of our nephews who celebrates a birthday close to July 4th but more than that, he loves primary colors.  I heat embossed some silver splotches in the background with Gorgeous Grunge and then layered my stars on top.  If you look closely, you can see a small vellum star in the background that's been heat emobssed with white on vellum.  So pretty!
I want to give you a close-up to see the sentiment.  It's a [retired] wooden accent but I inked it up with Versamark and poured silver embossing powder on it.  Heat it up and look at that texture!  Isn't it cool?  I wasn't sure how the wood would handle the heat from the heat tool but it was just fine.  I did keep the heat moving across so I think that helped.  A little silver thread looped behind tied all the silver accents together.
I had a couple vellum stars left over that I used on the inside with a fun sentiment to finish off this birthday card.  Maybe just a little glitzy for a boy but I think the primary colors keep it a bit more masculine and totes okay for a teenage boy!

I know the rest of the design team have some totes adorbs projects for you to gaze upon--please chek them out!  Then consider playing along with us before the challenge closes on Friday, June 17th at Noon (PST).  Thanks for stopping by, friends!

A Little Dash of Christmas Cheer {PP223}

Happy Thanksgiving week! Can you believe it? I knew it was coming fast but geez...I'm not ready for this year to end yet! But I guess it will go one without me if I don't jump on board so....  It's time for another week with The Paper Players where lovely LeAnne has a fun sketch for us:
I'll admit, I took a few liberties with the sketch...not intentional mind you.  I kinda forgot about the exact placement of the sentiment as well as the little scalloped border on top...yikes!  That will teach me to check the sketch badge before I start work on my project!  I hope LeAnne forgives me.  :-)
My card was inspired by the rustic colors in the Under the Tree speciality DSP.  I love the deep rich shade of Kraft and used that little diagonal striped piece as a starting point.  I liked the idea of stripes with stars so I embossed a piece of Garden Green cardstock wiht the Lucky Stars folder and had a little fun with my Star Framelits.
There is no stamping on the stars just a little more speciality DSP (doesn't it look like snow?) and a trio of sentiments from Endless Wishes.  I thought the small scale font looked sweet as a eensy little banner.  Each one was stamped onto Naturals Ivory cardstock and snipped to meet the scale of the sentiment--the ends were flagged with the Hexagon punch.
It was gray and rainy ALL day here in the Sunshine (LOL) State and the ink on my card got a little wet.  Please ignore the drizzle marks! I barely managed to get these pix taken before the deluge hit again.  I used a star stamp set I already had--Be the Star-- on the inside in Crumb Cake, Garden Green and Cherry Cobbler.  The clean lines of this set pair nicely with the overall clean look of the card.  So, what do you think?  I rather like it as these big stars just make me smile!

I know all the wonderful inspiration from The Paper Players design team will make you smile too!  Be sure to check out their work and then join us before the challenge ends on Friday, November 28th at Noon (PST).  Come back tomorrow when I have my final card as Featured Designer at the Merry Monday Challenge!  Thanks for stopping by today, friends!

Believe in Your Star

Howdy friends! I thought you might have missed my usual Sunday Paper Players post (taking the week off from DT duties) so I decided to treat you to a Monday post instead.  Today is our daughter's first day of fifth grade.  Yowza, how did THAT happen?!  Fifth grade is a big year with lots of responsibilities.  Safety Patrol, senior elementary student, setting the example for the 4th graders in her mixed 4/5 class, etc.  I wanted to let her know how proud we are of her so I made something she can hang in her locker as a daily affirmation:
I swear I didn't make her change her top for the photo shoot, lol!  Locker accessories are all the rage with the school-age set so I knew she would love something she could hang in her locker.
I selected the colors to coordinate with her backpack and other locker knickknacks and I'm pleased with how well our SU colors coordinate: Daffodil Delight, Strawberry Slush, Basic Black, Pool Party and Tangerine Tango.
How 'bout a few close ups of the details?
Of course, I wrote a little message to her on the back of the banner with the hope that every time she looks at it in her locker she will be reminded how special she is and to believe in herself,  OK, I better stop there before tears drop on my laptop!  :-)  Anyway, it's back-to-school time for many of us whether we have children, grandchildren or special children in our lives.  Consider making a banner like this one to brighten their day and their locker!
