Celebrating Balloon Birthdays PP329

Hiya friends!  As you read this, we are in Daytona Beach for the start of volleyball tournament season.  It's a crazy season of practice and travel but we love to watch our girl and her teammates develop as athletes and take on the competition and oh boy, the competition is tough in Florida!  Anyway...today at The Paper Players my lovely friend, Joanne, has an awesome sketch for us:
So, there's lots of room for interpretation here as you will see from the Design Team's creations.  While thinking about and looking at the sketch, I looked at it sideways...
...and knew right away what I was going to do...
See it?  Right?  Once I had it in my head, how could I not run with it?!  I covered the side of the card base with some [retired] Cherry on Top designer paper and pulled my other colors from there.  Although, I have to admit...the balloon (from Celebrate Today) is inked with [retired] Poppy Parade because I could not get a clear stamped image with my super wet Watermelon Wonder ink pad...grrrr.  Sometimes, the old style felt ones really are better!
And, yes, I really did fussy-cut the triangle shaped balloon "string".  Stamped in Crushed Curry on Thick Whisper White (for stability) and then precariously Cut. Out. By. Hand.  It acually wasn't that difficult because it's all straight lines!
I've noticed quite a trend lately of background sentiment stamping--especially with the same color ink.  I really like the look--a lot of dimension without extra bulk.  So, this sentiment is from a retired hostess set called Happy Birthday, Everyone and was just the phrase I needed to accompany the birthday balloon.
Of course, the inside needed a little dressing up too with some simple stamping of images in the Celebrate Today set in Pool Party, Crushed Curry and Poppy Parade.

I hope you like my take on Joanne's fun sketch...wait til you see what the rest of The Paper Players Design Team has created with it!  Maybe you'll be inspired to play along before our challenge closes on Friday, February 3rd at Noon (PST).  Thanks for stopping by, friends!

My friend, Joanne, told me about the fun balloon challenge at Less is More so I'm playing along with them too.  It's my first time there and I hope to be back!

Nance, I love the way you interrupted the sketch! The fussy cut triangles are a fantastic idea for the tail of your balloon! The stamped background is perfect! Bright, fun and colorful always makes me smile! Good luck at the volleyball tournament! Have fun and enjoy, My Friend! XX

I love it Nance - I didn't see it and it's a perfect interpretation of the sketch! Love the bright colours although I sympathise with your Watermelon Wonder dilemma - mine foam pad was really wet too which makes stamping these solid images such a challenge. You might want to link up with the challenge over at 'Less is More' this week too, where the challenge is to use a balloon on your card - yours would fit perfectly!

Nance
I love your card and especially the background stamping. Very cool. You are so ambitious to fussy cut the kite tail string.... but so cute and it really sets movement....
I'm just trying to figure out if you pop dotted the blue CS up on the right, folded back an extra long original base... or if my eyes are just playing tricks on me, and the DSP is just on top of the card front! Hugs

Such a clever interpretation of the sketch, Nance. Light stamping on the BG - love it and red bold balloon is fantastic.

What a fab card! I love the bright colours and that cheerful balloons string - a fussy cutting triumph! Great take on the sketch challenge and a super fun result. Thanks so much for playing along with us at Less is More :) (PS - remember to link back to us though!)

I love the movement and fun patterns on your design! The bright red really pops and those triangles are a great touch. Thank you for joining us at Less is More :)

LOL...I had to laugh when I read about your super-wet foam pad! Yep! I blot mine with a doubled paper towel after I open my new pads....it seems like a lot of ink is being wasted, but it really helps! Anyway, I love Poppy Parade...it looks perfect here and I love your background stamping as well! One of my favorite techniques! The whole card is a bundle of happiness, inside and out!

This is fantastic Nance! I really admire your patience with all that fussy cutting and it certainly was worth all the effort because that balloon tail is a masterpiece. Super bright and happy colours too and it is lovely to see a non-white card blank (the 'to you' stamping is a wonderful addition). Thanks so much for sharing this with us at Less is More. xx

Love this Nance! And yes, I also need to try the background stamping, it looks fantastic! I am a few years behind as I am just starting background stenciling LOL!

Fun card and great take on the sketch, Nance! Yup, those firm foam pads and me do not get along either. They are either too wet, or after I have blotted them a bit, too dry. I have given up altogether! Well the Poppy ink seemed to have worked perfectly for you, and I love the background you created with the subtly stamped sentiment!
