Beachside Bungalows and a Sleigh Ride {PP258}

Hi all!  The lovely LeAnne is our Paper Players hostess this week with a fun Clean-and-Simple Challenge...The Beach!
I had just received my box of pre-order goodies from the Stampin' Up holiday catalog (goes live for customers September 1st) and I was itching to use something, anything from that box for my card today!  But what to do with holiday goodies for a beach challenge?  Let's see if you can find the holiday goodie on my card:
I wanted to create the look of a tropical seaside village with colorful houses and a rising sun.....so I used the new Sleigh Ride Edgelit dies to make my sand dunes, ocean and houses!  I cut two hills with the house edgelit die from Crumb Cake cardstock.  The die has these little houses on it and since I wanted to make them in different colors, I simply snipped them off the Crumb Cake layer leaving me with a good sand dune.  Stamping some Gorgeous Grunge speckles in the same color gives the illusion of sand.  I cut another edgelit from Pool Party cardstock and used the line stamp from Gorgeous Grunge in the same ink color for the illusion of moving water.

For the houses I used a scrap piece of cardstock to cut just a part of the edgelit.  Since I only needed one house in each color, I didn't need the whole piece.  I chose Calypso Coral, Blushing Bride and So Saffron for my seaside village.  The Sun from the stamp set Kinda Eclectic was stamped in Daffodil Delight and the clouds were stamped in Soft Sky with the Work of Art stamp set.
One more sneak peek you really can't even see but trust me, you're going to want it!  That's the fine tip glue pen I used to adhere the Hello framelit to my card.  It has a needle like tip that hollow and lets the glue flow freely and easily onto the tiniest of surfaces.  Love it!

I hope you like today's card and an alternative way to use your holiday goodies!.  Do stop over to the rest of The Paper Players design team to see what goodies they are sharing.  I hope you will play along with us before our challenge closes Friday, August 21st at Noon (PST).

A Bootiful Occasion for a Sketch {PP246}

Howdy, friends!  As soon as I saw Anne Marie's fantastic sketch for our challenge at The Paper Players, I knew just the set I wanted to use.  First, the sketch:
This is a good one and could be used for lots of different images and occasions.  Today, I wanted to use a soon-to-be-retired set that will probably stay on my stamping shelves for awhile longer....Bootiful Occasions.  Take a look:
The brick pattern of the Adventure Bound paper stack seemed like a good, rustic companion to my blue suede boots.  Wouldn't you love a pair of boots in Lost Lagoon suede and Cajun Craze leather?  Well, with some Stampin' Write markers in hand, that's just what you've got!  The boots were fussy-cut and popped up on the sunburst from Kinda Eclectice because....well, it just seemed Kinda Eclectic and perfectly rustic.
And so does the burlap trim with a little bit of frayed edges...so glad to see this made it into the new catalog!  Disappointed that the Champagne Glimmer paper is retiring so I made sure to use it for a little bit Urban Cowgirl.
You just can't beat the punny sentiment from this set for the inside....and I couldn't resist coloring another boot either!  I hope you also can't resist playing along with us this week at The Paper Players.  Just make sure to check out the rest of the Design Team and play along before the challenge closes on Friday, May 29th at noon (PST)!  Thanks for stopping by today!

Kinda Eclectic Scrapbook page: display sample

Hi friends, I have another display stamper project for you using the Kinda Eclectic stamp set.  The photo is one of my favorites from our recent trip to Italy.  We visited a gorgeous vineyard in Tuscany and the seting couldn't have been more beautiful.  I tried to capture the natural beauty of the scenery in the colors, textures and images I chose for this page:
I think you can figure out all the elements I used...the Flowerpot DSP, Skinny Alphabet stamps and Crushed Curry embossing powder for the sunbursts.  I did fussy cut the leaves but it wasn't really that difficult, I promise!  You might be wondering how I got that cool word polka dot background though...wanna see it closer?
Did you guess yet?  I used the Dots Decorative Mask as a stencil--I laid it on my cardstock and then using Crumb Cake ink, stamped the Dictionary background stamp through the circles.  I have to say I was quite please with myself!  Recently, I have seen other demos using markers to color in the dots and doodling all sorts of things and I think that's just genius!  I just stamped through the hole for a stenciled effect.  Simple!

I hope you liked my scrapbook page today...join me again on Sunday when I will be back stamping with my Paper Players pals.  Until then, have a great weekend!

Kinda Eclectic Display Stamper Project: Box of Kindness

Hi friends! Today I have another Display Stamper project for you featuring the Kinda Eclectic stamp set.
I had just made a series of embossed circles with the sunburst image, as you saw in this card, when I saw my fringe scissors laying on my desk.  I thought hmm...I wonder what it would look like if I cut between the "rays" of the sunburst to make a paper fringe pom-pom?  Well, that led to another layer and another one and suddenly I had this cool box topper.  Of course I didn't actually use the fringe scissors--I used our paper snips--but they gave me the idea of the fringe.
I poked a hole in all three layers and threaded some Hello Honey satin ribbon on the box and through the top.  Some stamping on the box, a quick little tag and I was done!  Here's a close up of the pom-pom.  What do you think?  I had fun with this one--just trying different ways to use this stamp set.

Kinda Eclectic: Display Board Sample Convention 2014

Wow, what an amazing experience I had last week at SU's annual event Inspire, Create, Share 2014 (AKA Convention)!  The excitement of over 4,000 people together all keyed up about new products and techniques was exhilarating....and more than a little exhausting!  It was so much fun to finally meet blogging friends in person and make new friends along the way.  I haven't even begun to sort through my photos but in the meantime I am so excited to finally share my samples for the Convention display boards with you.
Since Kinda Eclectic was one of the stamp sets Convention attendees received, the display board stampers got our hands on it early to make our samples.  I think this set is very versatile and I wanted to show some different ways to use it.
For this look, I embossed the sun/starburst image in white on Crushed Curry, Tangerine Tango and Blushing Bride cardstock and ran it through the Big Shot with the Starburst Framelits.  The image is purposely offset in the framelit.  I backed each one with a Silver Foil starburst and framed the whole thing with a die from the On Film Framelits.  I thought the bold lines of the starburst coordinated well with this geometric pattern from the Flower Shop DSP.  I love how the starburst look a bit like spokes on an Asian umbrella or maybe even a lily pad.  This is probably one of my favorite samples I made and I hope you like it too!  Stay tuned, I have twenty-three more samples to show you!!
