Tribute to By the Seashore {PP244}

Hi there friends.....wishing all the mamas out there--pet mamas too--a very Happy Mother's Day!  This week at The Paper Players, the lovely LeAnne is our hostess with a beautiful color challenge:
Blue, green and natural....happy sigh!  So pretty together and the colors reminded me of the beach, which reminded me that I soon needed a retirement card for a dear friend who....loves the beach!  So, today's card was born:
It was very difficult to get a good photo of the colors.  I guess the light background with fairly light colors did not add up to a bright card...no matter what the light was outside!  I used a base layer of Naturals White because the flecks lend itself to the casual, rustic, beach feel.  A combination of images was used to achieve the seaside look--coral in Pistachio Pudding and a trio of sea life in the challenge colors....how 'bout a close-up?
I stamped each one with Versamark and heat embossed with white embossing powder.  I had a hard time getting the colors to stand out just stamping on white paper with the colored ink.  I thought the white embossing on colored cardstock highlighted the colors better.  For the Lost Lagoon nautilus (?) shell, I cut around the swirl and used a double stack of dimensionals to make the center stand out.
You can also see in this photo that I sponged the edges of the base layer, as well as the shells and starfish with [retired] Champagne Mist shimmer paint.  I still have several bottles of the stuff....I just love the soft color and lustre that it adds.

I'm going to keep this short and sweet today so you can get on with your day!  Be sure to stop by the rest of the Design Team to see what wonderful ideas they are sharing this week.  We hope you will play along with us before the challenge closes on Friday, May 15th at Noon (PST).  Thanks for stopping by today!

Pearls by the Sea {PP123}

Hello friends and Paper Players fans! For my friends in the US, I hope you are enjoying the Thanksgiving weekend.  I've had 6 days off from work and it's been wonderful!  My Mom has been visiting us this week and it's been great to have her here for my stamp club, Thankgiving dinner, shopping and more stampin!  But enough about me, you're here for a card!  This week the lovely and talented Jaydee is hostess for a sketch challenge and she's designed a fabulous one:
So versatile!  So many things to do with that center panel--stamp it, use pretty patterned paper, whatever you would like!  I chose to use it for a friend's birthday card using a new-to-me stamp set, By the Seashore:
My friend loves the beach as well as blues and greens so I used that as the inspiration for my color palette of Midnight Muse, Pool Party, Lucky Limeade and River Rock.  Each seashell was stamped in one of those 4 colors in a random pattern.  And by random, I mean it took me 5 attempts to achieve "random", lol!  The background was stamped with a long-retired stamp (Aida) for a natural wicker/tropical feel.
I took a liberal approach to the sentiment panel in Jaydee's sketch but I think the flagged ends of the Itty Bitty Banner and my ribbon ends mimic the sentiment banner in the sketch.  The sentiment I used was a bit small so I backed it with a Decorative Label that had been stamped with the Four Frames set on Pool Party cardstock.  I added just a few okay A LOT of pearls to frame it out--it needed a little somethin' ya know? I think you would agree a special friend deserves A LOT of pearls, right?
And speaking of pearls, I just had to show you what our sweet dog, Sadie, was sportin' after Stamp Club last week.  Those darn pearls end up everywhere...and I guess Sadie thought this one looked like a tasty morsel!  Or maybe she was just taking after a certain pair of Boxer Twins...
Lastly, I peek at the inside with a spray of seashells across an all-time favorite birthday sentiment from the retired set, On Your Birthday.  I'll never tired of this stamp!

I hope I've inspired you to play along with us at The Paper Players this week.  The hardest part about getting started, I think, is the layout of the card and Jaydee's sketch is a fantastic place to begin your design.  Be sure to visit the rest of the design team and check out their interpretations of Jaydee's sketch.   Our challenge ends on Friday, November 30th at Noon and don't forget, our Guest Designer call too!  Have a great day, friends!
