Flourishing Phrases of Color PP397

Happy Sunday, friends! Today I am delighted to host this month's color challenge at The Paper Players:

I happened on this combination one day when all three of these ink pads were among those scattered on my craft desk. They looked so pretty sitting there next to each other that I thought it would make a great color challenge combination!

I was smitten with the layout of this card when I saw it in the new annual SU catalog (pg. 18). I'm afraid that this is a pretty close CASE of the card in the catalog. Sometimes, it just feels good to make something without having to think about the layout and overall design. On the Crumb Cake base I stamped an image from Flourishing Phrases in the same color ink.

A die from the coordinating Flourish Thinlits made a delicate little flower and vine in Lemon Lime Twist. The LLT leaves were stamped and fussy-cut, as were the Calypso Coral flowers. I stamped the flowers four times fussy cutting two full flowers and then two smaller ones to layer on top. This stamp set is so easy to cut out with the heavy outlines on the images. Just for fun, I added some adhesive-backed sequins also in LLT.

Some masking of the images to decorate the inside. This is a little over the top for a Thank You card--I tend to keep those simple usually--but this one is going to a very special recipient who made my recent birthday extra special. She deserves an over-the-top card because she is over-the-top wonderful!

Misty Mountain Top PP388

Hi friends! It's another fun week with my pals at The Paper Players. The lovely LeAnne has a beautiful color combination for us to work with...take a look:

Oh my, that field of lavender is gorgeous isn't it? Beautiful colors and I had the idea that I wanted to make some misty mountains with these colors using the Waterfront stamp set--similar to this card from a couple weeks ago. Whenever I need a kickstart of inspiration I always head to Pinterest and a search for "mountain perspective drawing" yielded this fabulous photo and my idea was born:

It took several tries on scrap paper to get the look of the mountains the way that I wanted--dark in the front and fading out in the distance. This really gives depth to the image without adding any extra layers. This is just one panel of cardstock! The front row of mountains is stamped full-strength in Elegant Eggplant--overlapping the mountain image to make the mountain larger. The second row of mountains is full-strength Wisteria Wonder, again overlapping to make it appear larger. The third row is Wisteria Wonder stamped off once and the final row is stamped off twice. Tranquil Tide stamped off once or twice with another image from Waterfront created the forest floor . The trees were stamped full-strength in Tranquil Tide. Finally, I added soaring birds from the High Tide set and a sentiment from Flourishing Phrases both in Elegant Eggplant. The whole front panel is popped up on a thick Whisper White base.

Woodgrain Flourishing Leaves PP317

So, I have a thing about leaves...the colors, the textures, the patterns, the amazing symmetry of nature. This week I am hostess at The Paper Players and we are celebrating Leaves with a Clean-and-Simple challenge:

It seems as though Clean-and-Simple is all I've got time for lately so this challenge was perfect for another busy week. Here's my creation:

The hardest part about making this card was deciding the colors and the spacing of the squares! The card is small notecard sized--just 3.5" x 5"--so the squares needed to be proportional. I used the 1.25" square punch to pop out squares of Island Indigo, Cajun Craze, Crushed Curry and Always Artichoke. When I ran them through the Big Shot with the Woodgrain embossing folder, I laid them out as I wanted them on the card. This allowed the embossed lines to continue seamlessly across the 4 panels. The leaf stem was cut from Copper Foil paper with a Flourish Thinlit and some Copper Thread wound behind it. The only stamping is the Early Espresso sentiment from the coordinating Flourishing Phrases stamp set.

I have a bit more stamping to show you, albeit not really clean-and-simple but does feature leaves:

You might remember the Halloween candles I shared with you in this post. This time I made a fall version that I gave to a friend as a hostess gift for the SU party she booked with me. I heat embossed some images from the Vintage Leaves set onto vellum cardstock using copper embossing powder and clear embossing powder with Cajun Craze, Old Olive and Rich Razzleberry inks.

Here's a view of the vellum before I wrapped it around the candle. After all the leaves were stamped and embossed, I stamped the back with the [retired] Dictionary stamp in Crumb Cake. I am really pleased with how it turned out and my hostess loved it! I'll have to make a few more in other fall colors, starting to get a little addicted to making them!

Flourishing Phrases for a Sketch PP310

Hi friends...I'm back! Did you miss me?! I missed you! Today I'm happy to share a fun sketch I designed over at The Paper Players...take a look:

So, I finally ordered and received some goodies from the (new) SU catalog--yeah, the one that premiered in June. One of the first sets I couldn't wait to use was the Flourishing Phrases stamps and dies. They're gorgeous! I thought that they would work great with all the space in the sketch:

I worked with a color scheme of Dapper Denim, Sahara Sand and Copper. The stamping is pretty straight forward here, just a lot of extra details. The flourish was stamped in opposing corners with Sahara Sand and overlaid with the coordinating diecuts in Dapper Denim. I wanted a little shine so I added a bit of Copper Foil sheets also in opposing corners.

To pull in more copper, I die cut anotehr flourish and cut just a snippet of the flower which I backed with some Copper Thread. I used spray adhesive to adhere the first layer of the flourish die cut and some carefully applied glue with the Fine Tip Glue Pen to adhere the second layer of dies. Did you also notice that copper colored pearl? I didn't have any copper embellishments, so I made my own! I covered some pearls with Versamark ink, sprinkled on some (new) Copper Embossing powder and heat set on low. Voila! Copper "pearls"!

A little more stamping of the flourish on the inside....well, because it's so pretty! The Sahara Sand stamping gives a nice shadow effect ot the Dapper Denim stamped images doesn't it?
