Acorny Gratitude PP320

Hi peeps!  Here we are, rolling on into November.  I can't believe it.  I don't even want to think about Christmas yet!  It's finally feels like fall here in North Florida and I'm thankful for that!  Sweet Laurie is our hostess this week at The Paper Players where we are celebrating just that....being thankful:
I have much to be thankful for and try to remind myself of that as often as possible.  I like sending cards for Thanksgiving to the people in my life that I am thankful for so it was with that in mind that I created today's card:
I havent' used the Acorny Thank You stamp set in ages and I was so happy to see it return to the 2016-2017 catalog.  I thought it was the perfect set for this week's fabulous sketch over at Create with Connie & Mary.  The Cable Knit embossing folder sets off the acorns nicely and I wanted to mimic a cozy sweater in Very Vanilla.  The acorns are kinda like a necklace on the sweater in pretty jewel tones of Deligthful Dijon, Rich Razzleberry, Island Indigo and Cajun Craze.
The acorn toppers look gold here but I promise you, they are punched from Copper Foil paper. I thought they needed to be "grounded" by something--I didn't like them just floating--so I added two oak leaves from the Vintage Leaf set and cut with the coordinating Framelits.  Of course, I added a little Wink of Stella to the leaves and acorns because, well...why not?!  The Linen Thread was just looped behind the acorns and attached with glue dots.

It's really a simple card and while I strayed from the sketch a little bit, I think you can see the inspiration:

For even more inspiration, check the rest of The Paper Players design team.  I hope you will consider joining us before our challenge closes on Friday, November 11th at Noon (PST).  Thanks for stopping by, friends!

Grateful for Pumpkin Spice Season (PP311)

Happy Sunday everyone.  For my US friends, I hope you are enjoying the long Labor Day weekend.  We're still cleaning up around here from Hurrican Hermine that passed through north Florida early Friday morning.  Fortunately, no major damage for us and we all even got a day off from school and work--a Florida "snow day"!  Jaydee is our hostess-with-the-mostest this week at The Paper Players and she has a fun theme challenge for us:
So, I really wanted to make a shaped circle card--not something I do very often.  This being the start of September and the official beginning of Pumpkin Spice season, I wanted to make a shaped pumpkin card.  My first attempt ended looking more like an orange so I hope Jaydee doesn't mind that my card uses an enlongated circle....
OK, so it's actually an oval but what is an oval really?  Just a circle stretched out!  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.  I used my largest Oval Framelit to cut the pumpkin from Naturals Ivory [retired & hoarded] cardstock.  I cut another, smaller oval and popped it up with dimensionals.  I sponged all the edges with Sahara Sand ink to add shading and dimension.
The pumpkin stem was cut with the tree stump die from the Thoughtful Branches set.  The leaves were cut from Copper Foil paper and Always Artichoke cardstock with the leaf die from Flourish Thinlit dies.  The twine is some [retired] Baked Brown Sugar Thick Baker's Twine.  Lastly the sentiment is from the Acorny Thank You stamp set and punched out with the Washi Label punch.

I really like the way my pumpkin shaped card turned out.  Although, I must admit, I didn't finish the inside because I have no idea who I will send it to!  I'm going to wait for just the right moment.

But don't wait to go check out the rest of my pals on the Paper Players design team.  I know they have lots of circular inspiration for you!  If you want to play along with our challenge, just remember that it closes on Friday, September 9 at Noon (PST).  Thanks for stopping by!

Acorny Love Note {PP261}

Hey there, friends--it's Sunday you know what that means....another week with The Paper Players!  Thank goodness for my weekly DT posts otherwise I might not get to my blog--geesh!  Anyway, this week Sandy has a sweet theme challenge for us--perfect for the back-to-school season:
I saw this great Flap Fold Card Tutorial via my teammate Joanne's fabulous blog and knew the idea was just perfect for my Lunchbox Love note.  I also thought the sentiments and images in the Acorny Thank You set would make a fun card.  Let's see what you think:
I have to say...I am nuts about this stamp set and coordinating punch--so cute!!  I won't go into full detail on how to make this flap fold card because the tutorial is super easy to follow and you won't have any problem seeing how it goes together.  I used a base of Mossy Meadow cut to 4.25" x 11" and scored at 2.5" and 6.75".  I used a 2.5" circle punch to make the hold for the pop up piece and the circle of Daffodil Delight was made with a circle framelit just a little bit smaller than 2.5".  The tutorial does use a small embellishment--about 1"--to close the flap but I went a little larger because I wanted to use this cute acorn sentiment.
I used one of the sweet stamps from the acorn set to stamp a background pattern on the Daffodil Delight circle.  I wanted it to stand out and the Hello Honey ink--while not a color in the designer paper--does coordinate with the other colors and gives just enough contrast to read the words.
Here's the flap open to reveal more of that pretty Into the Woods designer paper--such rich autumn colors with the bright white!
Inside is a 4"x4" piece of Whisper White cardstock.  I laid it down and from the back side, drew a light line around the existing circle in the Mossy Meadow base.  Then, I lined up my 2.5" circle punch on the line I drew and popped out the half circle.  It lines up perfectly!  This little sentiment is also from the Acorny Thank You set but the little leaves here, and on the front, are from the Among the Branches set.

When I was all finished I showed it to our 11 year old daughter and she squealed "That's so cute, Mama!"  I guess I hit the mark on the love note for a kid!  Now, you will want to check out the rest of the Design Team's fabulous inspiration.  I hope you will play along with us before the challenge closes Friday, September 11th at Noon (PST).  Thanks for stopping by!
