A Die-Cut Work of Art {PP239}

Hi there friends and Happy Easter!  Even though it's a holiday, it's still Sunday and that means another challenge at The Paper Players.  This week, the fabulous Jaydee has a theme challenge for us:
I have to admit...this one stumped me for a little while.  Hmmm, what do to with a die-cut?  I like to try and show something a bit different in my projects for the Design Team so I thought on it a bit. When I saw the bright and happy colors this week at the colourQ, I knew just what to do.  First the colors:
and here's my card:
I had a lot of fun making this one!  I began with a 3.75" x 5" piece of Whisper White that I stamped with the Work of Art stamp set in the challenge colors (substituting Coastal Cabana for Cool Caribbean which I don't own).  I placed the "happy" framelit right over my stamped image and cut it out.  Next, I cut out several more "happy" pieces and stacked them all together.  Tiny drops of Tombow multi-adhesive helped build my stack.

A little tip...before I ran the framelit through my Big Shot, I used Fast Fuse to glue two scrap pieces of Whisper White together and then cut out the word.  Two layers of cardstock gave me a nice thick shape similar to coaster board.  I only had to run a few more passes of the double-layer cardstock through to get the desired result.  I ended up with 4 layers of double thickness to which I added the piece I cut from the stamped image on top.
With my stack complete, I carefully fit it back into the negative space from the die-cut.  I had the little left-over bits as well and popped those back into their appropriate spots so that there wouldn't be any negative space left for the black base layer to show through.
I'm sure that the rest of the Design Team have some fabulous works of art to share with you...please stop by The Paper Players and take a look.  I hope I've inspired you to look at your dies and framelits in a new way and will consider joining us at The Paper Players before the challenge closes on Friday, April 10th at Noon (PST).  Thanks for stopping by today!
edited 4/5/15: at the suggestion of my teammate, Joanne James, I am also linking my card up to the sketch challenge at Create with Connie & Mary.  I always love playing along with them and my card matches this week's sketch pretty closely--I must have been channeling the CCMC team!

  19. Nance, your hidden word in your rainbow card is perfect. I love the way you tied the inside and the outside together. The tip about fusing two layers of Whisper White together before you die cut the sentiment is genius. I always do them separately and then spend ages sticking them together! Your tip made me go, DOH!
    Thanks for rocking my challenge this week
