This week at The Paper Players another wonderful woman, Claire, has a bright and beautiful color challenge for us:
I'll admit, I was a little vexed when I first saw these colors but then I realized that I could blend the red and orange together....maybe cheating a little but it's a good way to approach similar colors in a palette. So here's what I pulled together:
I really love the Special Reason stamp set and am sad to see it retire. So far, I've mostly used it with the coordinating dies for the beautiful cut outs it creates. Here I wanted to feature the full stamp and the pretty flowers.
The two sizes of similar flowers makes for easy bouquets—I like
the graduated look of the sizes. Here I
inked the flowers first in Tangerine Tango and with a sponge dauber tapped in
the center and the edges with Real Red ink.
After cutting out with the coordinating die, I painted the flowers with
Wink of Stella…happy sigh.
The watercolor look to the background was made easy with the
swoosh stamp from Work of Art—a set I am happy to report is not retiring! Since the swooshes were stamped off I wanted
another layer that was full strength Tempting Turquoise so I added some watery
dots from the Dragonfly Dreams set
So, there are a mixture of sentiments from three different stamp
sets. The front features an oldie but
goodie from Delightful Dozen while the inside combines Petite Pairs and Teeny Tiny
Wishes. I stamped another blended flower
and using a mask added some more swooshes and Pear Pizzazz leaves.
Thanks so much for stopping by today….be sure to check all the lovelies
from my teammies at The Paper Players.
Maybe you will join us before our challenge closes on Friday, May 19th
at Noon (PST). Have a great day!

Nance - we had the same idea. I too blended the red and orange together and it works beautifully on your flowers. I love the background of turquoise behind the flowers on the front and the sentiment on the inside. I know your Mom will appreciate how gorgeous this card is - and the love that went into it. Happy Mother's Day to you both.

Wonderful way of using these "vexing" colors, as you said, LOL! I was vexed by them too, at first! But what a wonderful floral array you created, especially with that beautiful watercolored background!
ReplyDeleteNance this is so pretty. Love your blending of the orange and red... .nice.
ReplyDeleteThe swoosh in the turquoise was a perfect choice. Your masking of the leaves came out perfect..(of course)... mine always leave a space between the flower and leaf??? Maybe my mask is too thick? Hhmmm Anyway your card is beautiful... and so is you Mom! Hugs.
Great idea of both you and Jaydee to blend the red and orange on your flowers - gorgeous! I will be so sorry to see this stamp set go - I love it too. The turquoise swoosh background is great too - the addition of the dots adds a subtle illusion of layering which works really well. Such a pretty card Nance - I hope your Mum agreed and you both celebrated Mother's Day in style.
ReplyDeleteYour blended blooms are gorgeous Nance!I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteOH, beautiful flowers, Nance. Love how you added turquoise in swooshes.
ReplyDeleteNance, you are amazing! This is so beautiful! I love the combined red and orange on the flowers. BEAUTIFUL! The swoosh stamp is perfect. I need to remember to use that. It adds so much to your card-inside and out! You would never know these colors through you for a loop! I hope you have a fantastic weekend! Lots of LOVE to you! XX
ReplyDeleteNo such thing as cheating! A very gorgeous card!!!!
ReplyDeleteAww, I am sure you mom loved not only this card but your wonderful comments about her, Nance! Love your background and how you blended the two colors. Hope you had a nice Mother's Day! Hugs :)
