A Two-for-One Sketch PP292

Hi friends--I hope you're having a great weekend.  No travel volleyball for us this weekend so it's a rare one at home!  Today at The Paper Players my dear friend, Claire, has a great sketch challenge for us.  Take a look:

Oh how Claire loves her layers!  :-)  I tried to live up to her expectations with today's card so see what you think:
This stamp set, A Nice Cuppa, is on the retiring list and I'm very sad to see it go.  With the coordinating framelits that cut out the teap cup and accessories, it's a must-have.  It's going to stay in my craft room even after retirement!  The coordinating DSP stack Have a Cuppa, is also retiring and I took my color cues from the happy hues it contains: Pool Party, Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry and Melon Mambo.  If you're wondering about the dimensions for the strips of paper I used, they are as follows:
  • Crushed Curry (yellow) panel: 1.5" x 4.75"
  • Melon Mambo (pink) panel: 1.25" x 3.75"
  • Have a Cuppa DSP panel: 1.75" x 3.25"
I heat-set the sentiment with white embossing powder on my Bermuda Bay teacup and decorated it with a single Iced Rhinestone.  Some Silver Metallic Thread is a subtle accent and almost looks like steam from the teacup.
This was not the first card I made with Claire's sketch though...  When I first sat down to create, I had an idea to use the elements of the sketch for a one-layered stamping card.  I really wanted to use the retiring Summer Silhouttes stamp--another favorite that won't leave my craft room.  So here's the first card I made:
What do you think?  Can you see the sketch elements?  The Pool Party trellis is one of the three panels in the background.  The two stamps leafy vines are the other two panels in the sketch and the large Queen Anne's lace flowers are the circle element.  It was fun to stretch my brain and try to approach the sketch in an abstract way.
One more pic so you can see that I stamped onto Shimmery White cardstock.  I often forget to use it but it's so pretty and just a light dusting of shimmer makes this simple card a bit more special.

Be sure to check out the rest of the Design Team's creations over at The Paper Players.  They have knocked it out of the park...again!  We hope you will join us before our challenge closes on Friday, April 29th at Noon (CST).

  1. Great cards Nance, love all the colors in the "cuppa" card everything flows so nicely. Your creative juices are definitely flowing in your second card, I really see the different layers of Claire's sketch, but all done with stamping, genius! You're right those stamp sets are too nice to retire!

  4. I love two-for-ones! Awesome cards, Nance. I just got the Nice Cuppa dies not too long ago and have been having fun with them. Sorry to see them retiring already..along with some awesome colors, too I hear. It's always a sad time when that retiring list comes out! But then happy again when the new catty comes!!!

  5. Both great cards, Nance and what a great way to showcase the retiring Silhouettes set. I love your first card with the angled cup, the fabulous DSP and just a little touch of bling. I love the second one because of the colors - and it is so easy to put through the post. Fabulous inspiration, my friend

  6. How pretty are both cards! I think I will keep Summer Silhouettes, too! So many possibilities with all the elements it has! I do love your teacup though...I know somebody's mom would love that, LOL!

  7. Oh I love both your cards, Nance! The first one appeals to this tea loving Mama, and Summer Silhouettes is probably one of my most-used stamp sets. Both great takes on the sketch!

  9. I love both cards Nance - the first one uses a favourite set of mine too and definitely a 'keeper', committed tea drinker that I am! The second one is a great alternative take on the sketch - and showcases another stamp set that I will be sorry to see leave us this time. Such a great demonstration of layering on a one layer card! Hope you enjoyed a rare restful day yesterday too.

  10. Nance love both of your cards... I CAN see the elements on both too,,, but just look how 'different' the results of the two. Both are gorgeous and I also will not let go of some retired items... like ALL of them! hugs.

  11. I'm loving both of these, Nance! So very different using just one sketch. It just goes to show what can be accomplished when you get creative.
