Such a great sketch with all kinds of possibilities. While at Stampin' Up's Leadership Conference last weekend, we saw a demonstration using multiple ink pads to color the gorgeous Swallowtail stamp from the Spring Catalog. I was so inspired to try it myself:
I turned the stamp rubber side up and applied ink directly with the ink pad, tilting the ink pad and brushing it on in sections like a paintbrush. Starting in the middle and working outward I used Elegant Eggplant, Summer Starfruit and Baja Breeze.
Because I wanted the butterfly to float off the edge of the card base and show more of the beautiful stamp, I stamped it again on the Summer Starfruit base using the stamp-a-ma-jig to line it up with the previous stamped image. I also spritzed a little Soft Suede marker across the card front.
On the inside, I used Baja Breeze and Summer Starfruit only to ink the butterfly, stamped off once and then onto the Whisper White cardstock. A sentiment from Blooming with Kindness was added to bring in my third color--Elegant Eggplant.
With the large Swallowtail stamp, I've shown you just one way to interpret Jaydee's clean-and-simple sketch. Check out the rest of the Design Team for even more gorgeous inspiration. I hope you'll come back to The Paper Players and show us your creation before this challenge closes on Friday, January 25th at Noon (PST). Thanks for stopping by today!

Wow, Nance, what a beautiful card, inside and out! Love how you inked the butterfly and how it floats off the page.
ReplyDeleteLove it, Nance! That critter scared me at first, but I'm really taking a liking to him now. Love what you did with it.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, Nance! The outside is beautiful and it's finished perfectly on the inside. I love that technique, but how do you not contaminate your other pads if you are starting dark in the middle? Maybe I'm just a bad "painter" and it's not that hard? lol
ReplyDeleteGaspingly gorgeous! And I love the softer image repeated on the inside!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful butterfly, not scary at all as some have thought. Love the simplicity of the card front, the added bonus inside and the colors.
ReplyDeleteLuv,
Mom
Nance this is gorgeous. Love the multi colored image and the softness of the entire card. I didn't even want this stamp which appeared to be huge, but the samples I've seen are just Beautiful. hugs.

ReplyDeleteVery pretty! The size of this stamp was overwhelming when I first saw it in the catalog but I LOVE how you've used it. Thanks for the wonderful inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI am in agreement with so many others that were intimidated by this stamp, but you have used it beautifully and I love the tricolor effect!
ReplyDeleteNance, I totally bypassed this stamp because of the size. You really showed how beautiful it can be and I love that you replicated it on the inside, too. Fabulous use of the sketch.

ReplyDeleteOMG Nance, Yessiree I have to order that big stamp too. You pushed me over the top with the beauty of your card. How did you not muck up your ink pad though? Just wondering. Love your card. Hugs, Bev
