Paper Players Challenge #197

Hi all, fortunately for me I've still got another week of vacation (yay!) but The Paper Players are still going strong!  LeAnne has an awesome sketch to inspire you this week:
I don't have a DT card to share but can show you something I made previously for a colleague at work:
I know I've mentioned before that I find inspiration nearly everywhere.  When I see a great design that resonates with me, I can't wait to turn it into a card with my paper, stamps and ink!  Smashing Magazine features monthly desktop wallpapers featuring fabulous designs from artists around the world.  I fell in love with this one and couldn't wait to turn it into a card!  Colors are (from left to right): Sahara Sand, Island Indigo, Pool Party, So Saffron, Basic Grey and Coastal Cabana.
I never really used the Fine Feathers stamp set but it was the perfect choice for an inside embellishment!  Thanks for stopping by today!

Flowers in a Box, for Mom

Hiya friends....still on vacation but back with another "while I'm away" post for you!  This one was made for my very special mother on Mother's Day.  Since she was leaving on a trip a couple days after Mother's Day, I didn't want to send a flower bouquet that would sit in an empty house (I know, I'm practical like that!) so instead I sent her a bouquet of paper flowers:
I finally got a chance to try my hand at the card-in-a-box design that is all over blog land.  What is so cool about this design is that it truly folds up and fits into a regular A2 envelope.  Now, I'll admit...this one didn't because there were so many layers and embellies!  But, you could design it with mailing in mind and make it much flatter.  Since it was going inside a box anyway, I couldn't help myself from adding all kinds of elements!
I followed the directions from two different tutorials to create this beauty.  Written directions from Mommy Stamper as well as the video tutorial from ChicnScratch.  The base is Coastal Cabana and the box is decorated with a Crumb Cake pattern from the Fresh Prints DSP stack.  I wanted it to resemble a wildflower bouquet and selected the colors of Calypso Coral, Wisteria Wonder, Coastal Cabana and Daffodil Delight.
The Flower Shop stamp set coordinates so well with the Petite Petals set!  Add a little Gold Foil Sheet with a pearl to the center and it's done.  This really didn't take that long to make--it's not as difficult as it looks...shhhhh, don't tell!

Paper Players Challenge #196

Hi all, it's Paper Players Sunday!  I'm on vacation this week but encourage you to check out the fabulous inspiration from the rest of The Paper Players Design Team where Ann is hosting a Clean-and-Simple challenge:
I didn't have time to make a DT card for this challenge before I left on vacation but have something made previously to share with you.  It's not CAS but it does feature flowers!
A SCRAPBOOK PAGE!  Not something you see here very often, lol!  I needed to make one for my Display Stamper application and decided to use my favorite school photo of DD.  The colors and butterflies on her dress provided an obvious source of inspiration.
The colors are Wisteria Wonder, Pink Pirouette, Summer Starfruit and Whisper White.  Stamps used are Swallowtail, Everything Eleanor and Flower Shop.
I used the In Color Dahlias on the larger flowers but needed a smaller embellishment for the center of the small flower from Everything Eleanor.  As the saying goes necessity is the mother of invention, I bunched some Summer Starfruit Baker's Twine around a tiny glue dot and voila!  Instant flower center!  Thanks for popping by today for a visit!

Another Great Year: Club Style

I will be on vacation for a couple of weeks but while I am gone, I've scheduled a few posts to keep you coming back!  ;-)  Today, I'm showing a card we made recently at one of my stamp clubs inspired this card made by Jen Arkfield.
I changed up the colors and papers but love the idea of stamping on vellum and coloring with markers on the back:
I used a variety of circle punches for the confetti including 3/4", 1/2" and the circle from the retiring Itty Bitty Shapes pack.  A fun card to make and a fun card to receive!  Have a great day!

Oh, Petite Hello {PP195}

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there!  I hope you have something special planned or, better yet, nothing but relaxation.  Aaaah, I am certain that you deserve it.  :-)  Today at The Paper Players, Sandy has given us a lovely color combination to work with:
I was feeling a bit rushed and out of sorts so I went in search of inspiration at some of my favorite challenge blogs and found this fabulous sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches:
I combined the two together with a favorite retiring stamp set, Oh Hello, to create a card just for fun:
I used a whole bunch of products that are either retired or retiring--sometimes it's fun just to dig through my stash and pull things together.
I love to fussy-cut and find it so mind-numbingly relaxing that I don't mind cutting out the flowers in the Oh, Hello set.  I had a little left over Calypso Coral Organza ribbon from 2013 SAB that I tied along with some Linen Thread and attached with a Glue Dot.  Oh yes, this embossing folder is retiring too--another favorite--that adds such a charming detail without a lot of fuss.
It's hard to see in the overall picture but I wanted to show you the tone-on-tone stamping I did in opposite corners with the flourish from Creative Elements.  Just a subtle layer to the background that is very pretty IRL.
I think this is one set that will stay in my personal stash even after it is retired.  I love all the elements and find them so easy to work with--even on the inside!

When it comes to working with stamps and paper, I'm going to need all the good thoughts you can manage to send my way as I work to create twenty-four samples for SU's North American Convention...  That's right, I applied and was invited to be a Display Stamper at Convention!!!  I am so excited, what an honor.  Oh, and just a little bit terrified too, lol!  I hope I can get everything accomplished in a short amount of time!  So, if things are a little quiet here you'll know it's not because I've abandoned you, it's because I am sequestered in my studio trying to churn out convention worthy designs...wish me luck!

In the meantime, do check out all the fabulous inspiration from my friends on the rest of the Design Team.  I hope our work inspires you to play along before the challenge ends on Friday, May 16th at Noon (PST).  Have a wonderful day, friends!

Grateful there's You, Mom {PP194}

This week's challenge at The Paper Players is hosted by the ever-fabulous Jaydee..and what a timely challenge it is!
Good thing too because I still had one very important Mother's Day card to make!  I found this great sketch over at Cardabilities--I'm really liking their sketches--and was totally inspired!

I wanted to use the retiring single stamp, Beautifully Baroque, because it is so elegant and pretty....just like my Mom!  Aww, it's true! She loves all shades of blue so I stamped it in Coastal Cabana on Pool Party cardstock using my Stamp-a-ma-Jig to line up a second image at the bottom.  Next, I layered a piece of Crisp Cantaloupe DSP cut with the Banner Framelits.
A scrunched up Tea Doily was spritzed with some homemade Champagne Shimmer Mist for and layered behind a Chalk Talk tag embossed with white onto Baked Brown Sugar.  I am so sad the Itty Bitty Punch Pack set is retiring.  I love this bitty flower--it always makes the perfect little accent especially with a pearl center!
Be sure to stop by and check out what the rest of the Design Team is sharing today in celebration of Mothers, everywhere!  We hope that you will join us before the challenge closes on Friday, May 9th at Noon (PST).  Thanks for stopping by today, friends!
